VRBO: "Let the trip make it out of the group chat"
Rooted in a rich history of offering vacation rentals and short-term accommodations, VRBO, an online marketplace originally known as Vacation Rentals By Owner is the go-to platform for travelers seeking unique stays. Drawing from personal experiences of organizing trips with friends, there's often clashes on activities, accommodations and budget. Our concept, "VRBO College Breakaway Bundles" eliminates these hurdles by offering a pre-planned package with activities and a place for the group to stay at a discounted price. This concept allows students to go from endless group chat chaos to tangible, fun memories without breaking the bank.
Print Ads
For these print ads, we chose a variety of scenarios to show how every friend group deals with the struggles of making progress on planning a trip. With the "VRBO College Breakaway Bundle", all you have to do is gather your friends and press book!
Extended Ads
Near the iMessage keyboard, the copy reads "Pull Down". Below is what is revealed when the ad extends and goes from 11 inches to 18 inches in length. My partner Carson, who worked as the copywriter (while I held the role of Art Director), had a fun time coming up with relatable copy for each scenario.
VRBO College Breakaway Website Addition
Our website extension is a new “Breakaway” tab on the original VRBO site.
Community Hub on Home Landing Page
For our interactive element on our website, we chose to create a community hub for college students to connect and engage with others. This will allow them to make friends or find roommates before the trip, and to share recommendations or activities they are looking forward to. This is a great way to not only see the groups before arriving, but to also ease the anxiety of not knowing anyone.

Sketch Phase
Our initial visual concept illustrates diverse VRBO options through "islands" symbolizing the beach or the mountains, showing students enjoying fun experiences with friends.
Responding to classmates' feedback, our visual concept now features iPhone group messages, perfectly complementing our tagline: "Let the trip make it out of the group chat."
